*NEW* You can now submit interesting Scots words and place-names using our input forms. These will help improve and expand our knowledge of Scots language, both past and present. Please click on the Input Forms tab. To browse our glossary of Scots place-names, click on the P-N Glossary tab.

*School Competition* The SWAP school competition is now over. You can view the winning entries here.

Welcome to the SWAP website! We want to hear from you about the Scots words you use and hear around you. Every few days we will be asking you about a new topic, whether it is an interesting or fast-changing part of the language or asking you to help with your knowledge of local place-names.

On the site you can join the discussion by using our message board to talk about our current topic, but also any other interesting Scots words, new Scots terms you have come across, or the language in general. You can also browse the Glossary of Scots Place-name Elements, discover the roots of place-names near you, and help us build a better picture of Scots place-names across the country.

We’ll be adding more words and features in the coming weeks so keep checking back. Subscribe to us on Facebook and Twitter to keep in touch with the project and join the discussion there too.
